Founded in 1875 with a vision of becoming the shipping port of Los Angeles, the City of Santa Monica never actually achieved its dream.  It did, however, become a haven enjoyed and recognized by locals and travelers from around the world as “Paradise by the Sea.” The Santa Monica Historical Society Museum’s exhibits explore the local history from its earliest Indian inhabitants to its participation in the First-Round-the-World-Flight to its many pleasure piers along its beautiful mesmerizing coast.  Discover Santa Monica’s historic treasures, how they have evolved, and still thrive today.

Note: Early in 2007, the museum relocates to the Santa Monica Public Library complex on Santa Monica Boulevard between 6th & 7th Streets.  Please check the website for current information.
